Electrical - Day 2

Today I worked at home, and it was a good thing. David was there at 7am, and the electricians were there by 7:30. The goal was for them to get the unconnected wires out and rough out the light fixtures, plugs, and appliances. Turns out this was not easy. There were a bunch of wires in the ceiling from 35 years ago, live, that needed to go. Some were in the walls, and some needed to bee cut out, which made it worse. Long story short, they spent 5+ hours doing that and re-wiring the breaker box to handle it.

Also, it makes sense to add more recessed lights
to shine on the "work areas". Its actually going to be pretty nice (top pic). There will be 5 or so of those spaced out to shine on the work areas, one fixture in the middle of the room for general light, and 2 recessed lights over the little peninsula (which I didn't think of before) to accentuate it (bottom pic). All of these will be on separate switches, and there will be switches for each area in 2 places (middle pic).

A couple of things they are fixing that we hated:
  • There was no light switch at the kitchen entrance. It was by the back door. That will be fixed.
  • The garbage disposal (aka "pig") will have a switch up top instead of inside the sink cabinet.
  • The stove plug will be where it belongs
  • More plugs for appliances and stuff.
Jon came by and roughed out a couple plumbing-related things as well, so that tomorrow David can hang drywall, install the beam, and start prepping for cabinets. I appreciated him coming over on short notice.
